DLIST - Privacy Statement
DLIST Privacy Statement
The Digital Library of Information Science and Technology (hereinafter "DLIST") is committed to respecting the privacy of those who visit our website. Our commitment to your privacy rights is shown in the principles and policies adopted by DLIST in this statement.
What this Privacy Policy Covers
DLIST does not collect any information from its website except information that is supplied voluntarily by the user as part of using this website, DLIST's services, or search systems in requesting information from DLIST. While you may visit any DLIST webpage without identifying who you are or revealing personally identifiable information, should you voluntarily supply information, you are covered by our privacy policy regarding the use of any personally identifiable information (e.g. first and last names, email address, institution or affiliation) that DLIST may hold and said information is not released or used except as disclosed in this statement.
DLIST is not responsible for the privacy practices of non-DLIST websites, services or organizations to which a DLIST webpage may link, refer, or recommend including any governmental or academic websites. When you link to another site, you are no longer on our site and are subject to the privacy policy of the new site. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of these other web sites before you supply any information to the new website.
Information Gathered by DLIST
It should be noted that registration is not required for general viewing of archived materials. However, all deposits must be made by a registered user. The registration process asks for a unique user name, the first and last name of the individual, an email address, and other information. Of this information, only a user name, first and last name, and email address are required. Additionally, DLIST will record your computer's IP address, in order to statistically gauge use, as well as your ISP, in order to determine the user's country of origin and academic or commercial affiliations. This information is shared only as delineated in the Sharing of Information statement below
Sharing Of Information Statement
At this time, DLIST only uses the personal information that you provide in order to record and support your activities within DLIST websites and web-based services. At this time, DLIST does not sell, rent, or share any personal information that it collects on its webpages. DLIST reserves the right, however, to change this policy, and will give you sufficient notice prior to doing so to allow you to remove your information or stop your information from being shared.
While DLIST does not share information except as disclosed in this statement, it will disclose your personal information if required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to conform to the edicts of the law, or comply with legal processes served on you, DLIST, or any personnel responsible for the maintenance of DLIST information or the website. We will do this in compliance with the ALA's Library Bill of Rights and with the ALA 's interpretation as it pertains to Privacy.
It is the policy of DLIST not to identify which materials are deposited by whom in our repositories. However, OAI compliant Eprints Archives uses a shared code for metadata tags (e.g., "date," "author," "title," "journal" etc.). This material is then shared through a harvesting process. DLIST cannot guarantee the protection or confidentiality of materials deposited, as viewed through global collections. DLIST does not acquire nor accept any transfer of copyright interests in conjunction with the deposit process. (See Copyright Policy Below)
General Use Of Websites And Services
DLIST webpages and DLIST search and discovery systems maintain raw log files of documents retrieved and search queries entered. Information extracted from these log files (e.g. the pages requested, the user's IP address, estimation of a user session, result sets from search queries) is processed in aggregate to help DLIST gauge the effectiveness of its webpages, improve the performance and structure of its web pages, and for generating general use statistics. DLIST may share this type of information with its collaborators, sponsors and contractors to evaluate and improve the site.
Persistent Identifiers
In order to use some DLIST services, a user may be required to have a persistent identifier (e.g. a login identifier.) These identifiers may link to personally identifiable information the user supplies DLIST as part of registering or signing up for a service. Statistical log files do not correlate personally identifiable information with specific webpages viewed. Personally identifiable information will not be linked to general use information except when a user has volunteered to participate in an evaluation study of library use.
IP Numbers And Domain Names
IP numbers and domain names are included in the raw log files and are used in helping to compute aggregate statistics (e.g. as a basis for defining a use session.) These IP numbers are not used to link DLIST use to any other personally identifiable information that DLIST may hold.
DLIST may at its discretion publish articles, reports, or other works about DLIST that may include information about use and users, but these articles, reports,or other works will not contain any information that could identify individuals who have deposited Works in DLIST.
Contact By DLIST
DLIST in the course of its operations may contact individuals who have registered with DLIST to ask permission to gather information about their DLIST experience. This contact may come in the form of surveys via email or direct contact. Any information gathered in this manner will not be used in any manner which will identify depositers or their opinions to anyone except DLIST.
Copyright Policy
DLIST does not require nor accept any transfer of copyright interests in conjunction with the deposit process. The author of the Work or the copyright holder maintains all copyright licensing rights that are acquired under copyright law and not released prior to depositing. DLIST does not accept responsibility for copyright issues. This responsibility belongs to the author or copyright holder of the Work. If you have signed a copyright transfer agreement, check your agreement to determine if you are allowed to self-archive. DLIST provides a sub-repository of publishers' copyright transfer agreements for the convenience of depositors. However, these Agreements are modified by the publisher over time and may not be the same versions of the Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) the depositor signed.
